An American citizen, who was undergoing medical treatment at a city hospital, was found dead in his hotel room on Sunday evening.

William David Thomas (45) was staying in Hotel Volga II at Nawroji road in Colaba since June 16. At around 7 pm on Sunday, when there was no answer from his room after repeated knocking by the hotel staff, the manager contacted the Colaba police station. The police forced its way into the room and found Thomas dead on the floor in his underwear. The body was taken to St George Hospital for post-mortem. Incidentally, Thomas was also undergoing medical treatment at the same hospital and was admitted there from June 9 to 14. However, the hospital officials clearly refrained from divulging any details about his medical condition.

A K Ingle, senior inspector at Colaba police station, said that US Consulate officials were better aware of his case as Thomas had been in regular touch with them. "There is no foul play involved. He seems to have died of some medical cause," said Ingle.

Thomas, a native of Alabama, was set to leave the country on Monday night. The manager at Hotel Volga on the condition of privacy said that Thomas did not appear to be very ill over the last few days. "It seems that he must have had a stroke or a heart attack but we can't be sure," he said.
