American woman robbed at Indian wedding
Delhi: A US citizen, who had come to Delhi to witness the traditional mehendi culture and sangeet during ceremonies in northern India, lost a bag containing her passport and some US dollars to snatchers. Incidentally, the ceremony was taking place in the high-profile Lutyens' zone where there is heavy security.

A police official said that the victim identified as Brenda Hei Becker Heidekku was attending the wedding ceremony of the daughter of IAS officer V K Bahuguna that was being solemnised at 5 Ashoka Road.

"Bahuguna called the police as she was his guest. We have registered an FIR under section 379/356 of IPC on the complaint of Bahuguna," said a senior police official. 

Speaking with this reporter, Brenda said that she was very interested in experiencing the mehendi culture and music ceremony at Indian weddings but had no idea that she would become the victim of such a bitter experience.

"I am leaving India and don't want to talk about the incident," said Brenda.V K Bahuguna is the additional secretary in Nagot Rain-fed area authority planning commission, government of India. He told MiD DAY that Brenda is a senior colleague of his son-in-law, Tanmay Kala.

"My son-in-law works with a US-based firm where Brenda works as well. When she heard about his marriage she expressed a desire to visit India and witness the rites.  I helped her acquire her passport in one day," said Bahuguna.

Meanwhile, police said that the snatching was committed by three juvenile offenders. "No one has been arrested so far. We only know that they (the accused) are juvenile," said a senior police official.
