Anand:
The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which markets its products under the Amul brand, has decided to increase the price of milk by Rs 2 per litre in Delhi and Gujarat, following a hike in the prices of petrol, diesel and gas.
"We would be increasing the price of our full cream milk Amul Gold by Rs 2 per litre in Delhi from July 4. The increase in milk prices in Gujarat would be from the second week of July," GCMMF managing director R S Sodhi told PTI.
"In Gujarat, there would be an increase in price of Rs 2 per litre for Amul Gold and Shakti, while Amul Tazaa and Slim and Trim would become dearer by Re 1 per litre," he added.
Sodhi said that the hike was an after-effect of the recent increase in fuel prices.
With the hike, a litre of Amul Gold and Shakti would cost Rs 30 and Rs 28 per litre respectively, while a one-litre pack of Amul Tazaa would come with a Rs 24 price tag.
Sodhi's announcement makes this the second hike in milk prices in 2010.
In February this year, the GCMMF had hiked milk prices in three metros -- Mumbai, New Delhi and Kolkata -- and Gujarat by Rs 2 per litre.
However, the GCMMF said that while the February hike was due to an increase in input costs, the current one is a consequence of the government's decision to raise fuel prices.
