Armed Men Help 19 Juvenile Home Inmates Escape in Mathura

Mathura, Uttar Pradesh: Nineteen inmates of a juvenile home, including two children escaped from custody, with the help of two armed youths at Kotwali police station area in Mathura.

The armed youths scaled the high walls of Nari Niketan at Kotwali police station area in the wee hours yesterday and helped the inmates to escape, police said today.

The youths allegedly overpowered the guards and broke into the prison, they said.

"While 17 inmates and a child have been nabbed, efforts are on to nab the remaining two inmates and a girl child.

Three teams have been formed. Surveillance team has also been pressed into action. We hope to find them shortly," SP City Shailesh Pandey said.

"Two inmates namely, Puja, her two-year-old daughter Vaishvi and Shilpi are still at large," he said.

Meanwhile, taking exception to the incident, District Judge DK Singh inspected Nari Niketan and ordered to depute armed guards at the juvenile home.

"Get the open area of Nari Niketan covered with iron net as early as possible," he ordered the district probation officer OP Yadav.

Mr Yadav noted that one of the absconding inmates, Puja had fled from the juvenile home earlier as well. "She was nabbed by Kotwali police afterwards," he said.
