Bangalore:
BJP Government would launch on October 14 free distribution of sarees to the mothers of girl children covered under the "Bhagyalakshmi" insurance scheme.
About 10.68 lakh women would get a saree each under the scheme to be inaugurated by Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa in Davanagere, Minister for Women and Child Development C C Patil told reporters.
The saree distribution programme will be held in nine districts this month and later in other districts, he said.
Upto March 31, 2009, 8.69 lakh beneficiaries have been issued insurance bonds he said adding as on August 31 last, 2.70 lakh beneficiaries have been enrolled under the insurance
scheme.
Under the Bhagyalakshmi scheme two girl children born into families living below the poverty line get Rs one lakh insurance cover besides stipend for education till they attain the age of 18.
