Bangalore:
A drugs racket has been busted inside Bangalore's Central Jail that houses over 7000 inmates. Two people have been arrested, one of them being a female warden.
The female warden, Jyothamma, was caught red-handed while supplying drugs to convicts.
Commenting on the case, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Bangalore B N S Reddy said, "She was found carrying a packet and was about to hand it over to one Rizwan, who is actually a convicted prisoner".
How 850 grams of marijuana got past the heavily guarded gates A and B of the Central Jail is still not known. But sources say Jyothamma or her agents would rip open a rubber ball. Fill it with drugs and fling it from the gates far into the jail at a pre-decided time, to be caught by a jail inmate.
Police have stepped up alert. "There are certain developments that have taken place. We have brought it to the knowledge of jail authorities time and again," said Reddy.
That investigation will also look into the role of jail authorities as well, without whose help, drugs in jail could not have been possible.
