Bangalore: University foreign students' controversy reaches Governor

Bangalore: Bangalore University's (BU) discrimination against foreign nationals pursuing higher education has now reached Raj Bhavan. A team of principals of colleges affiliated to BU met the governor and the university chancellor, HR Bhardwaj, on Monday.

About 18 under-graduate college principals met the governor and submitted a memorandum to him about the issue. "We have explained the problems caused to foreign students by the university," said one of the principals.

A few days ago, BU had issued a circular to all its affiliated colleges to schedule the exams of their foreign national students at a particular examination centre in a remote area, from November 9. Kristu Jayanthi College near KR Puram was chosen for the centre.

The colleges resisted the BU decision and sought to meet the varsity officials to resolve the issue. "We tried to meet the registrar evaluation, but he was not available. Then we went to meet Sayad Jamal, who is the special officer for examinations. But that was also of no use. Now we have approached the Governor," said M Prakash, principal, Sheshadripuram First Grade College. "We have no option other than approaching the governor, since the vice-chancellor and the registrar evaluation are not in town. The governor has promised to help the students and we will wait for that," Prakash said.
