Chennai: Two forest guards in Tamil Nadu's Krishnagiri district were attacked by a bear who they rescued from a well on Sunday.
The bear had strayed into the Bargur village from a nearby jungle. It had attacked a farmer and then fell into a well while on the run.
A team of forest officials used a net to lift the bear out of the well, but as it came out, one of the two officials let go of the rope in fear. The bear then attacked the two guards.
One of them, Rehmathulla, fell into the well and the other guard, Ramesh, had a tug of war with the bear for over five minutes till the public saved him.
Both guards were unarmed during the operation. They are being treated in a hospital now.
