Berhampur: 20 Juvenile Delinquents Escape From Odisha Observation Home

Berhampur: At least 20 juvenile delinquents of a government-run observation home escaped after attacking its staff, including the superintendent, police said today.

The inmates attacked the staff members with vegetable-cutters, injuring four including Superintendent Sanjay Kumar Mohanty before escaping last night, they said.

The injured were admitted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital where the condition of Mohanty was stated to be serious, hospital sources said.

As many as 84 juveniles are housed in the observation home being run by the Department of Women and Child Development.

Superintendent of Police (Berhampur) Anirudha Singh rushed to the spot and held discussion with the staff.

Some of the inmates had earlier complained about alleged delay in trial of their cases to the superintendent who assured them that the matter would be looked into, police said.
