It was a bitter end to a love affair when a 27-year-old journalist allegedly hanged herself after her lover, a 45-year-old businessman, refused to marry her. The incident took place in Mukherjee Nagar area of northwest Delhi.
The deceased identified as Mukta Sachdeva used to work for a religious magazine. She was reportedly in love with Gurbhas Singh Chawla, her neighbour, and wanted to marry him. But when he refused, she took the extreme step.
Mukta's elder sister Deepika alleged that their neighbour Gurbhas Singh and his family were responsible for her sister's extreme step.
"On the night of September 25, Gurbhas came to our home. He knocked on the door and called my sister outside to discuss something. I heard him threaten my sister of dire consequences. Gurbhas' s brother Raju and sister-in-law Parul were also with him and they scolded Mukta and asked her to forget Gurbhas. After they left, Mukta directly went to her room and did not talk to anyone in the family. After a few minutes we found her hanging. Gurbhas and his family are responsible for this," alleged Deepika.
A senior police officer said that they have taken the statement of deceased's family.
"We are looking into the matter and have sent her body for post mortem," he said. Mukta after completing her journalism from YMCA had been working for the magazine. Her neighbour Gurbhas deals in surgical instruments and owns an office in south Delhi.
