Tourists are the worst affected in Meghalaya as the bandh called by NDA and Left parties on Thursday to protest hike in petrol prices partially hit the state.
Tourists were stranded in their hotel rooms as taxis are off the road in most parts of the state.
In Tura and Jowai towns, shops were closed and vehicular traffic was thin.
Meanwhile, there were reports of stone pelting in certain areas along the National Highway connecting Guwahati and Silchar via Shillong, officials said.
Many banking institutions remained closed while government offices were partially affected due to the bandh.
In Shillong city, over 80 per cent of business establishments were closed. There were reports of stone pelting on vehicles at Mawiong, on the city outskirts, and at Umling in Ri-Bhoi district.
Unidentified miscreants tried to torch tyres at Lad Umroi area along the Shillong-Guwahati highway, officials said.
Meghalaya has no representatives to the Assembly from BJP or its allies.
