Bhiwani: Councillor's two minor children shot at by unidentified assailants

Bhiwani, Haryana: Two minor children of a newly-elected municipal councillor in Bhiwani sustained bullet injuries when two masked men entered their house in the wee hours on Saturday, triggering a shut down in the area during the day.

According to police, the two masked men entered the house of Maman Chand, the newly-elected municipal councillor from ward No 22, in Halu Mohalla area at about 4:30 AM.

They started inquiring about him from his wife, who was at home with the two children, while Chand was away in Gurgaon since Friday, the police said.

The masked men took out knives during an altercation with Chand's wife, who managed to get her husband's revolver in a bid to resist them.

However, the duo overpowered her and snatched the revolver, firing at the two children who were present in the same room, police said.

The minor children, including a girl, received bullet injuries in their arms and were taken to civil hospital but doctors there referred them to medical college in Rohtak, police said, adding that the assailants managed to flee. The children are stable now.

All markets falling under ward No 22 were shut down to protest against the incident.
