It's a Durga puja gift for the Bengalis of Pune from Union Railway Minister, Mamata Banerjee. The Indian Railways will introduce the bi-weekly Howrah-Pune air conditioned Duronto from October 9.
The train from Howrah will be flagged off on Saturday and reach Pune on Sunday. The train from Pune would start on Monday and reach Howrah the next day.
This would be a non-stop train connecting Howrah and Pune. The senior divisional commercial manager of Pune railway division, Alok Badkul, told DNA that the train would depart from Howrah on Thursdays and Saturdays and from Pune on Mondays and Saturdays.
The departure timing from Pune will be 3.15 pm and arrival time at Howrah the next day, 7.40 pm.
The departure timing from Howrah will be 8.20 am and arrival time at Pune the next day, 11.35 am. The total journey time is around 28 hours.
Banerjee had announced the introduction of the train while presenting the railway budget. The train would benefit Kolkata-bound passengers from Pune and vice versa.
At present, there is only one train, Azad Hind Express, which plies everyday. This train takes about 34 hours to reach Pune from Howrah and vice versa.
According to Badkul, the new train would have 16 coaches - one first AC with 28 berths, three 2nd AC with a total of 138 berths and nine III tier AC coaches with 594 berths. There would be one pantry car.
"The fares of the train would be announced in due course of time," he added. According to him, the train would not have any stops and only Howrah and Pune-bound passengers can travel in the train.
