Indore: A lawmaker of the ruling BJP thrashed 15 men who he claimed were drug addicts and were harassing women at a park in Indore in Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday.
Eyewitnesses claimed that Sudarshan Gupta beat up the men at the Rukmani Devi Park after some women accused the men of harassing them. The women reportedly joined the legislator in thrashing the men.
"These people have disturbed the peace in the area and pester women daily. I have warned them that if they are seen here again, I will catch them and hand them over to the police," Mr Gupta told reporters.
The Congress said the legislator should have called the police instead of "taking the law into his hands" and beating the men.
"The incident just shows how the law and order situation in the state has deteriorated in BJP rule in the state," said Congress spokesperson Narendra Saluja. He alleged that the sale of drugs was thriving unchecked.
