Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu:
The decomposed body of a Christian priest was found under mysterious circumstances in a church complex at Santhinagar in the Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu, police said on Thursday.
The nude body of Father Amalan, 54, Secretary of the Palayamkottai Diocese Family Welfare Service Committee, was found with his hands and legs tied inside his house in the Child Jesus church complex, they said.
Police, who broke open the house on a complaint that foul smell was emanating from it, said initial inquiry revealed that the victim could have been asphyxiated to death using a pillow, which had been seized.
Father Amalan's cell phone has also been seized, they added.
