Bangalore:
What happens when police personnel manning the master control room toll-free number '100' receive a bomb threat, that too, when the caller says the their top brass is the target? This is sure to create panic and send the entire city police force on a wild goose chase.
But for police commissioner, Shankar M Bidari, it is all part of the game. "I am unaware of such a call. We get similar threats every day. This is not new to me. This time, I came to know about it after the media asked me. I heard that an unidentified person gave a threat call around 12.30 pm from his mobile number. We are now trying to trace the person," he said.
Five sniffer dogs were deployed by the anti-sabotage squad along with the bomb detection squad, which found the call to be a hoax.
However, senior police officers are wary about such a call. "As the new building for police commissioner's office is under construction, there are several workers and labourers entering the place. Anyone can enter the premises through the rear gate as there is no strict vigil maintained here," said a police officer.
The police commissioner's office is secured with a metal detector and there is a monitoring station at the reception, next to the main entrance. "Visitors have to get their photos taken, which is pasted on an entry slip and given to them. The slip will have the details of their purpose of visit and with whom they are intending to meet in the premises.
