Pune: In a gruesome incident, minor boys in a school in Pune brutally murdered their classmate by beheading him and throwing his head in a river.
The body of Abhishek Ghorpade, a Class VIII student, was found hanging from a tree by some boys who had gone to play cricket. Abhishek's body was later identified by his family.
A 19-year-old youth has been arrested in connection with the killing. The arrested suspect - Ashish Mapre - was believed to be part of the threesome who murdered the 15-year-old.
Two minors too have been detained for interrogation in the case.
Previous enmity was reported to be the factor behind the gruesome act of teenage violence.
Abhishek, according to his parents, had left home on May 5 evening saying he was going out to buy a cake for a birthday party of one of his friends and would be back late.
But when he didn't return, the parents filed a missing complaint with the police. After investigating the case, the police zeroed in and detained Abhishek's classmates.
The last rites of the deceased were performed by his parents in the presence of his grieving friends and teachers even as fire brigade and police divers gave up their efforts to recover the victim's head thrown in river Mutha that flows through the city.
