A five-year-old boy and his grandfather were run over by a silver Honda City in north Delhi on June 6. The car was sporting a Delhi police sticker on its windscreen and the driver was allegedly a minor. The duo were crossing the road after returning from the cremation of a relative.

According to an eye witness, the victims were walking a few metres ahead of an accompanying group of people. The driver of the over speeding car lost control, hit the duo and then rammed into a crane in use at a nearby by construction site. Bhagwan Dass (55) and Rajat (5), were killed on the spot.

A senior police official said: "The car belonged to Satpal Singh Chauhan, a resident of Bakoli village in Haryana. One of his relatives is in the Delhi police and he may have got the sticker from him. The driver had no driving license. We are still investigating the case."

"The duo were run down near Alipur, while they were walking on one side of the road. Ankur and Prince (the occupants of the car, both minors) were arrested from the accident site. The driver of the crane received minor injuries," the police official added.

Rajat and his grandfather along with other family members were walking towards the bus stop after visiting a relative's residence to attend a cremation when the incident took place. The victims were residents of Sonepat's Kumaspur village. Four others who were injured in the accident were discharged from hospital after getting medical aid.
