Boy murders girl who had been coercing him to marry her in Visakhapatnam

The mystery surrounding a BCom student's brutal murder near Vambay colony in the outskirts of Visakhapatnam three days ago was unravelled on Wednesday after the police nabbed her lover and his friend.

The duo confessed that they had killed K Jayalakshmi, 21, by stuffing her mouth with cloth and strangulating her on the outskirts of the city on Saturday evening, after which they fled the scene.

According to the police, Jayalakshmi's lover K Chaitanya, a second year BTech (Mechanical) student of a local engineering college in the city murdered her after she coerced him to marry her.

The police said that Jayalakshmi was a resident of Ootagedda near RK Beach area, while Chaitanya was a native of Antonynagar near One Town.

Jayalakshmi who was pursuing first year BCom through distance education mode in a city college and had fallen in love with Chaitanya around 18 months ago, had been trying to persuade him to marry her for the past few months.

However, unwilling to commit to marriage, Chaitanya decided to murder her with the help of his friend A Hemasundhar, a first year BSc (Computer Science) student.

On Saturday morning, Chaitanya and Jayalakshmi went to the Indira Gandhi Zoological Park on his Bajaj Pulsar bike and spent time there till the evening. Later in the evening, Hemasundhar joined them and offered her soft-drinks laced with a sedative, after which the duo took her to Vambay colony and murdered.

Later, they threw her body and belongings including her bag into the bushes and fled the scene.

During investigation, the police came across evidence after questioning her friends and checking her call logs.

The accused will be produced in court on Thursday.
