Rajgarh, Madhya Pradesh:
Eight persons, including the newly-wed bride, were killed when a pick-up van carrying a marriage party collided with a truck near Rajgarh in Madhya Pradesh, police said Friday.
The collision took place near Dhanora on Agra-Mumbai Highway, about 80 kilometres from Rajgarh, late Friday night when the victims were going to Gwalior from Nargaon after a marriage, Superintendent of Police (SP) Ruchivardhan said.
The deceased included the newly-wed bride and the van driver. Gas cutters were used to extricate the driver's body from the mangled vehicle, she said.
Seven persons, including the bride, were killed on the spot while another person succumbed to injuries during treatment in the hospital, Ruchivardhan said.
One person was injured and admitted to the district hospital in Rajgarh, she said.
The deceased were identified as Somi (the bride), Gulab Bai Nayak, Namniwas Nayak, Dinesh, Poona, Ramesh, Vimal Nayak and Sanjeev Jaiswal (the driver).
The victims, residents of Nargaon, were going to drop Somi at her in-laws' house in Gwalior when the accident took place, the SP said
Police have seized the truck and efforts were on to nab its driver, against whom a case has been registered, she said.
