What do you say to a man who justifies murder in the name of family honour? Almost every month NDTV brings you stories of these so-called honour killings. This is a story from Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh, where the killer says he did the right thing by mutilating and murdering his sister's husband because the family didn't approve of the marriage.

Ajit Saini and Anshu Tomar eloped two months ago and got married. Then a week ago, they went missing.  Yesterday the police found Ajit's body -- his throat slit, legs chopped off.

"Yes, I killed him using a country made pistol. If there would have been someone else, he would have done something much worse," says Anuj Tomar, Anshu Tomar's brother.

Soon after the two eloped, the girl returned home to her parents, after her family assured her that all was forgiven and they would celebrate the wedding. On April 29, Ajit went to Muzaffarnagar to meet Anshu. That was when the two went missing.

"Ajit said he was going to Pune on April 29, but he hasn't reached till now. The girl was used as bait, she called him, and they kidnapped him," says Ram Kishore, Ajit Saini's uncle.

The police have still not found the girl, but they have arrested the girl's brother and father and are looking for accomplices.

Just a little over a month ago, five people in Karnal were given the death penalty for an honour killing. Yet, these cold blooded murders in the name of family honour continue.
