Thane:
One person was killed and three others injured when a 60-year-old three-storey dilapidated building collapsed in the Bhiwandi town of Thane district today, police said.
The Kuber Hotel building near Apsara Cinema on the Bhiwandi-Kalyan Road came down at around 2.30 pm, they said.
At least 12 occupants who were trapped under the debris of the structure were rescued at night by firemen, officials said.
According to the officials, the building was unfit for occupation and had been served a notice by the corporation in April.
Out of the three injured, two were shifted to the Thane civil hospital while one was admitted to the IGM Hospital in the powerloom town. The deceased has been identified as Uddheshwar Paswan (45).
A heavy downpour since Saturday night might have led to the collapse of the building which was in a state of disrepair, police said.
Fire officials said there was no possibility of anyone being trapped under the debris and the work of clearing the debris is being carried out.
