Bangalore: A day after thieves stole an ATM machine in Chandrapura, the device was found discarded near Chikkanagamangala Lake on Wednesday.
The burnt remains of the machine were found at around 11.30 am by the police. A finger print team visited the spot on Wednesday.
"The finger print experts have collected prints from the machine. The thieves, it seems, couldn't throw the machine into the lake. The bank officials are also assisting us in the investigation," a senior police official said.
The thieves discarded the machine near Chikkanagamangala Lake.
The cops suspect the involvement of four-to-five thieves in the heist. The men appeared to be well-versed in loading and uploading techniques.
A senior police official said that two thieves entered the ATM unit, unplugged the machine, and pushed it about five feet to the door.
"As the ATM is located on the roadside, a mini truck can be driven to its door.
"We suspect they used a wooden piece to push it into the mini truck and sped away," the official said.
However, even a day after the incident, the bank officials have not ascertained the exact amount of money lost.
The ATM was refilled with Rs 16 lakh cash last Saturday. So, the police estimate that the machine may have had at least Rs 15 lakh cash in it at the time of the theft.
