At the "Viraasat Car Rally'' in Jaipur, on Monday, the first ever car rally in Rajasthan with visually impaired navigators, was held in a bid to create awareness about the ability behind people's disabilities.
An adventurous duo of a visually impaired navigator and a sighted driver, together had to cover a 60 kilometer route. As the visually challenged helped their partners to navigate through Jaipur's busy streets and bustling markets, their belief in their own abilities kept soaring.
Mukesh Kumar, visually impaired navigator spoke to NDTV about his experience. "This has definitely increased my confidence level. I think there should be many more events like this so that everyone can understand that even those who can't see can achieve a lot, if given a chance."
The visually impaired navigators guided the drivers by deciphering the route, given only in Braille. As they had no idea about the instructions the drivers depended on their navigators for the direction they had to take or the speed they had to maintain. Their skill and clarity in guiding them was an eye-opener for most drivers.
One of the drivers, Ajayvir Khurana said, "The way my navigator guided me quickly and clearly was amazing. I just couldn't believe it." "The ability of these people is well beyond just eyes. I think they have overcome the pain of being blind as their inner eye is wide open.", said Tripti Pande, another participant.
In a testimony that they are not helpless all 42 visually challenged participants completed the course successfully, proving that they can contribute a lot to society.
