Mumbai: The cargooperations at the Mumbai airport was severely affected todayafter around 9,000 cargo workers went on a flash strike,protesting lack of basic amenities, infrastructure and otherissues.
"Around 9,000 contract cargoworkers, belonging to multiple cargo handling agencies atthe Mumbai airport, are on flash strike to protest lack of basicamenities and other issues," airport sources told PTI.
The strike has hampered cargooperations at the airport which has almost come to astandstill. Private developer Mumbai InternationalAirport Ltd (MIAL) operates the airport and isresponsible for providing these amenities at the cargo terminal,they said.
Around 600 tonnes of cargo is exportedand another 650 tonnes is imported at the MumbaiInternational airport which fetches a duty collection of 25crores, the sources added.
MIAL spokesperson was not availablefor comment despite repeated calls.
