A Major and an unidentified number of army personnel were on Tuesday booked for allegedly detaining and torturing a civilian in Reasi district here, police said.
"We have registered an FIR against unidentified armymen and an army officer, Major Negi, in Reasi district of the state for torturing a civilian and later abandoning him at a hospital here, Sub-Divisional Police Officer Mahore, Sujit Kumar said.
The FIR was registered following a complaint by his wife Fatima, who alleged that her husband was lifted by armymen on December 12 without any reasons.
"After his condition worsened in army custody he was hospitalised on December 18. The hospital authorities refused to take his case and he was shifted to Government Medical College Hospital and left abandoned," Fatima said in her FIR.
Further investigations in the case are on.
