New Delhi:
A mobile phone theft is not big news, but when the incident occurs inside the premises of the country's highest court, people tend to take notice. The episode, which has come to light now, took place during the hearing of a case of political threat last week.
Though the police generally refuse to lodge an FIR of mobile phone theft but this time they registered the case as the incident took place inside the Supreme Court and the cell phone was of an assistant advocate. A senior police officer said the matter is being investigated by the Tilak Marg police station of New Delhi district.
"The theft took place inside room number 13 of the Supreme Court. A person called Sundar, who is an assistant advocate, had come in the court for the hearing of his client. He was carrying a Micromax Q-5 that was stolen by someone," said the officer.
Speaking with this reporter Sundar said that he put the cell phone on a table kept beside the security official of the court. But after a few minutes his mobile went missing.
He said that CCTV cameras are installed inside the court premises but the incident occurred outside their range of view.
Police said they are pursuing the matter and will report to the media as soon as any arrests are made.
