Delhi:
65 pairs of clothes, 15 pairs of sandals, perfumes, some artificial and silver jewellery are some of the articles that were stolen from the room of a young news producer and an airline executive at a New Delhi women's PG.
And the thief is not an outsider but their room-mate who is a Chartered Accountant.
Shruti Sharma, the alleged culprit, used to live with her two roomies - Jyoti and Karishma Kohli - in room number 27 of the Akanksha working women's hostel on Bhagwan Dass Road.
While Jyoti is a senior producer with a news channel, Karishma works with an airline as booking executive. The incident took place August 25 but the police registered an FIR only on September 5.
The alleged theft occurred while the three girls had gone to their respective native places for celebrating Raksha Bandhan.
"When I returned to my room, I found two wooden chests belonging to me and Jyoti missing. Shruti's belongings were safe. We were living together in the PG for the last two and a half years. There were several instances of minor thefts but we ignored them though we suspected Shruti might be behind that," said Jyoti.
She claimed that when they tried to contact Shruti, who was at her parent's place in Sonepat, Haryana, their calls went unanswered.
"Even the police did not take cognizance of our complaint. We had to approach the Additional Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) S Dash to get an FIR registered in the Tilak Marg police station," Jyoti claimed.
A senior police officer confirmed the incident, saying they have questioned Shruti twice till
now but are yet to arrest her.
