Chennai: Teacher suspended for injuring 8-yr-old

Chennai: Teacher at a government school in Chennai was on Sunday placed under suspension for allegedly beating a third standard girl student, resulting in injury to her eye.

The eight-year-old student of a local primary school, Madhumita, sustained injury as her glass bangle broke and a piece pierced her right eye when the teacher, Renuka Paremswari, allegedly beat her in the classroom on December 14.

An official release said, City Mayor Subramanian ordered her suspension on Sunday. The treatment cost would be borne by the corporation.

On January 12, the father of a ninth standard student filed a petition in the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court claiming a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for a major knee fracture his son suffered after allegedly being beaten by his teacher.

A B Valayapathi of neighbouring Kodaikanal, in his petition, submitted that his son, Ayyanan, a hockey player, was hit hard with a golf club by his teacher Devakumar on October 27 last resulting in the fracture.
