A wild elephant trampled an 8-year-old girl to death and injured her mother and a younger brother in Jashpur district of Chhattisgarh, police said.
The elephant attacked the family's house, killing Annu Bai (the girl), and injuring her mother and 2-year old brother on Tuesday evening at Narayanbahli village.
Incidents of attacks and crop-damage by elephants are regularly reported from Surguja, Korba, Raigarh, Jashpur and Korea districts, which are covered by thick forests.
Forest department has notified 1,14,334.28 hectares area comprising Tamor Pingla and Samersot sanctuary in Sarguja and Badalkhol in Jashpur for development as elephant reserve.
