Ahmednagar, Maharastra:
A 26-year-old pregnant woman today suffered serious burn injuries and her two-year-old child died after they were set on fire allegedly by her in-laws in a case of dowry harassment here, police said.
The incident took place at Mali Chinchore village in Newase tehsil in the wee hours.
Sumaiyya Nisar Sayyad's in-laws allegedly set her afire along with her son Shayez as she did not comply with their dowry demands, Police Inspector Vikram Gaikwad said.
While the toddler died on the spot, Sumaiyya was admitted to the civil hospital with more than 90 per cent burn injuries, police said.
According to a statement given by the victim, she was in the last stages of her pregnancy and was constantly being harassed for not getting money from her father for purchasing a rickshaw.
Her husband Nisar Ramjan Shaikh (30), father-in-law Ramjan (60), mother-in-law Arifa (56), brother-in-law Isaq (35) have been arrested and further investigations are on, police said.
