Child kidnapped, killed; now, father dies

Hyderabad: The last four days have left the Prabhakar residence in Vijayawada seeped in grief.

The large home was owned by P Prabhakar, a prominent businessman in the city.  On Friday evening, Prabhakar received the news that his nine-year-old daughter, who had been kidnapped on her way to school on Saturday, had been found dead. Her burnt body was discovered in a boiler in a factory in Guntur.

Unable to cope with the grief, Prabhakar had a heart attack and slipped into a coma. He died in hospital on Tuesday morning.

The child's kidnapping and murder has shocked Vijayawada and led to an angry debate about the security of its residents.

Chief Minister K Rosaiah has asked the police to set up a special investigation team to find the killers.  "In light of the public anger, we are ordering a special, fast-track investigation,'' he said to NDTV.

Two relatives of Prabhakar's are being questioned by the police.
