Child locked up for four days without food and water in Uttar Pradesh
Bijnor: A 10-year-old boy has been rescued by the police after he spent four days at his home locked up without food or water.

Neighbours noticed him waving frantically from the window of the second floor where he lives with his parents in the Bijnor district of Uttar Pradesh, 400 kms from Lucknow. He shouted out for food and water. Neighbours then phoned the police who broke the door down.

Sonu was rescued and placed in the care of his paternal grandparents, who live nearby. It's not clear why his parents abandoned him. They reportedly left home to attend a wedding in a village in the area. Sonu's grandparents were allegedly not aware of their travel plans, or of the fact that Sonu was starving alone in his house.

The police have not yet found Sonu's parents. They are likely to be arrested or charged with illegal confinement.
