The 85th three-day all-India conference of vice chancellors will be hosted by the Bharati Vidyapeeth deemed university on its Dhankavdi campus from November 12. Discussions on various issues such as governance of higher education and role of the University Grants Commission (UGC) will be held during the event.
The conference has been jointly organised by the UGC and Association of Indian Universities. Bharati Vidyapeeth vice chancellor Shivajirao Kadam on Tuesday said around 400 vice chancellors of Indian varsities and around 30 overseas academicians and scholars will take part.
The conference will discuss models of governance of higher education, administrative and financial governance of university system in India, autonomy and accountability of the university system, ministry of human resource and regulatory authorities in higher education, role of the UGC in coordinating or regulating higher education, the role of other statutory councils, central regulatory authorities, university autonomy, public-private partnership in higher education and cross-country collaborations.
The meet will be inaugurated by Union minister for science and technology Prithviraj Chavan. Governor K Sankaranarayanan, UGC chairman Sukhadeo Thorat, Bharati Vidyapeeth chancellor Patangrao Kadam and state higher and technical education minister Rajesh Tope will attend the inauguration ceremony.
Kadam said higher education has witnessed drastic changes in the past decade, but methods of affiliation of colleges and teachers' issues have remained unchanged. The meet will not discuss the bills related to higher education pending before Parliament.
