Mangalore, : Mangalore City Corporation today decided to ban use of mobile phones by its Corporators during council meetings.
The move by the BJP-controlled civic body comes close on the heels of three Karnataka Ministers being forced to resign after they were caught on camera viewing porn clippings on their mobile phones in the state assembly.
A unanimous decision was adopted at the Council meeting held today to ban use of mobile phones, Mayor Praveen told reporters.
Mangalore is the first city corporation in the state to ban use of mobile phones during its sittings and the move is seen as an abundant precaution in the light of the scandal in the assembly which led to the exit of Laxman Savadi, C C Patil and Krishna Palemar as ministers.
