In the accident took place in the wee hours on Friday, the car spun out of control and was left completely mangled. However, all three occupants in the car escaped unhurt.

Jai was made to pay a penalty of Rs 1,200, after which he was let off by officials at the Worli police station.

The police claimed it was an 'ordinary incident' caused by a technical snag in the car and gave Jai a clean chit.

"Based on the complaint, we have charged Goel for rash driving," said senior police inspector Bharat Worlikar of Worli police station.

"Our investigation shows that the incident occurred at a turn on the road due to which the driver lost control and the car crashed onto the promenade."

He added that a medical test conducted on all the three youths who were in the car had shown that none of them had consumed alcohol at the time.

Jai's father, Jagdish Goel, said that the police had decided to close the case and had given a clean chit to Jai as the accident took place due to a technical snag.

"My son is not feeling well. I have to take him to the hospital so he will not be able to speak about the episode. Now that the case is closed, there is no need to make a mountain out of a molehill," said Jagdish Goel.
