Cold Capital likely to get colder

New Delhi: Delhi'ites woke up to a foggy morning on Wednesday with the minimum temperature plummeting to 5.6 degree Celsius due to icy winds blowing from the Himalayas.

The sharp fall from Tuesday's minimum of 9.3 degree Celsius resulted in intense cold conditions in the morning.

The maximum temperature was recorded at 18.1 degree Celsius against Tuesday's 14 degree Celsius, which was the lowest for the season so far.

The weatherman has predicted colder days ahead with the mercury likely to drop further to touch 4 degree Celsius on Thursday while the maximum will hover around 21 degree Celsius with mist and shallow fog in the morning.

Northwesterly winds blowing from the Himalayas and snowfall in higher reaches of Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh led to a dip in the minimum temperature in the national capital, the Met office said.

The dense fog in the city and parts of North India disrupted movement of trains with two of them being cancelled and over two dozen running behind schedule.

The Sitamarhi-bound Licchavi Express and Gaya-bound Mahabodhi Express were cancelled.

The Bhopal Shatabdi, Puri Express and Taj Express were rescheduled while over two dozen trains were running late, some by five to 10 hours.
