A cold wave sweeps the capital even as the mercury climbed slightly to settle at 6 degree Celsius on Thursday as opposed to a minimum temperature of 5.2 degree Celsius on Wednesday.
The MET department predicted a comparatively warmer New Year with minimum and maximum temperature expected to hover around 7 and 21 degree Celsius respectively. It has forecasted fog in the morning with mainly clear sky throughout the day on Friday, the first day of the New Year.
A thin layer of fog engulfed the city, however, there was no disruptionin flights at the airport as the runway visibility was above 1000meters.
The lowest minimum of the month was 6.4 degree Celsius recorded on December 26 in 2008, while in 2007, it was 3.9 degrees on December 29.
The all-time record for minimum temperature was recorded on December 26 of 1945 when the mercury dipped to 1.1 degree Celsius
