Thane:
A college professor allegedly killed his wife and nine-year-old daughter and later attempted suicide in Thane on Monday, police said.
Sanjay Umbarkar (42) attacked his wife Swati (40), also a professor, and daughter Atharva with a knife in their flat in Dhokali area following heated argument with the latter over some petty issue. Both died on the spot, they said.
Umbarkar then inflicted stab wounds on his body in an attempt to commit suicide. He was rushed to nearby Jupitor Hospital, where he is battling for life, police said.
Umbarkar teaches at Annasaeb Jadhav College in Bhiwandi, while his wife was a professor at BNN College, also in Bhiwandi.
The couple's son Rigved (15), who was thrown out of the house by his father during the quarrel, narrated the incident to police.
The couple had frequent quarrels over petty issues and this incident was a result of the same, police said, adding that the blood stained knife has been recovered.
Further investigation is on, they added.
