Aligarh:
A second year student of Aligarh Muslim University allegedly committed suicide in his hostel room, depressed over not being able to meet family expectations, senior officials of the institution said.
Ashraf Jalal, a student of BA second year of AMU, was found hanging in his room on Saturday evening.
"Jalal had tied himself to a rope and was found hanging from ceiling fan in his room at the Mohsinul Mulk hall. He was under treatment for depression and has left three suicide notes addressing his father," a senior AMU official said.
In his suicide note, Jalal said he is "sorry" because he could not live up to the expectations of the family. Jalal's body was discovered when his roommate became suspicious as he found the room locked from within.
Jalal hailed from Gorakhpur district in the state. All cultural programmes to be held at AMU on Saturday were cancelled in the wake of the incident.
