A 21-year-old college student was allegedly shot dead here by his friend over his relationship with a girl, police said today.
Harpreet Singh, a student of Kotkapura college, was shot dead on Monday by his friend Amrik Singh, student of a college near Smalsar, while his friend Navdeep Singh sustained bullet injuries, the police said.
According to police, Amrik developed a relationship with a girl studying in his college, who later got into a relation with Harpreet. This was objected to by Amrik.
To put an end to the issue, Amrik and his friend Devinder Singh invited Harpreet for talks and when they failed to reach an agreement, Amrik fired at Harpreet and Navdeep.
Harpreet died on the spot, while Navdeep, who sustained bullet injuries was admitted in the district hospital where his condition is stated to be out of danger, police said.
They added that a hunt has been launched to nab Amrik Singh, who is absconding.
