Mumbai: Two days after a constable ended his life, another Mumbai police constable on duty allegedly attempted suicide on Monday by shooting himself in the head with a service gun, police said.

Rajaram Pawar (50), who was deployed at the Share Bazaar area, shot himself once in the head with a Self Loaded Revolver (SLR) he was carrying, said Sanjeev Kokil, Senior Inspector at MRA Marg police station.

"Pawar, attached with MRA Marg police station, was immediately rushed to nearby hospital where he is undergoing an operation. His condition is critical," he added.

The reason for the extreme step was not yet clear, he said adding his family members were informed, who arrived at the hospital.

Police sources said Pawar was not keeping well for the last couple of months and seemed depressed.

This might have prompted him to attempt suicide.

On Saturday, a constable with the Oshiwara police station, Rajendra Kamble (47), who was staying alone at his suburban Bandra's residence, ended his life by hanging himself using a nylon rope.

In the wee hours on Friday, the son of an Assistant Police Commissioner (ACP), attached with the protection department, killed himself after shooting dead his wife at their residence in suburban Malad.
