Hyderabad:
A police constable allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with an AK-47 rifle in Nizamabad district of Andhra Pradesh, officials said today.
D Shankar (40) was on duty at Pitlam Police Station when he shot himself with an AK-47, which he had picked up from the arms room of the station, they said.
"Shankar, a head-constable, managed to fire three rounds on himself at about 4 pm and died instantly," police said, adding that reasons for the suicide were yet to be known, as no suicide note was found.
