Andhra Pradesh Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Wednesday arrested the owner of a consultancy firm from the city for allegedly duping aspirants, comprising doctors among others, under the pretext of providing them jobs abroad.
P V Koteswara Rao was apprehended by the sleuths of the Cyber Crime cell of the CID for allegedly cheating doctors and other aspirants through his firm on the pretext of providing them jobs in Australia after collecting a huge amount, a senior CID officer said.
On a complaint lodged last year by the victims, the CID had taken up the investigations and nabbed the accused, he said.
After examining witnesses and with technical evidence, like the IP log details and subsequent end-user details, at hand we traced the consultant and arrested him today, the officer said.
According to police, Mr Rao has confessed to have fleeced the doctors looking for appointment in Australia and collected huge amounts from them without processing their applications.
After examining the seized papers from Mr Rao, it was found that he has cheated 15 doctors by promising them jobs in Australia, another police officer associated with the probe said.
The accused told interrogators that the victims had approached him in order to send them to Australia for suitable jobs and he duped them on the pretext of processing their applications and sent fake offer letters through emails to them.
Whenever the victims insisted on initiating the visa processing, he postponed the issue.
