New Delhi:
Shahnawaz, a police constable, has been arrested on charges of raping his girlfriend in Jyoti Nagar area of northeast Delhi, the police revealed late on Sunday night.
The incident took place on May 28 when the girl was at her residence. The constable allegedly entered her home and manhandled her. The victim told the police that the constable then went onto rape her.
The woman alleged that the constable had promised to marry her but denied it later and was only interested in continuing physical relations with the girl. The accused and the victim had been together for over a year.
"She was keen to get married to Shahnawaz but he refused. After this incident she complained about him at the police station. We hope that she gets justice soon" said a friend of the girl.
After the victim's complaint was registered, the police arrested the accused and he has been sent to judicial custody.
