Thane:
A Police Constable was arrested on Monday for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 1.65 lakh from a rice mill owner, Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) said.
Sandeep Rajaram Kanoja (25), attached to Thane rural police, was trapped on Sunday while accepting the bribe. He was formally arrested on Monday, Superintendent of Police (ACB) Deepak Sakore said.
Another policeman Kamruddin Sheikh, a Havildar who was also involved in the bribe episode, is absconding, he said.
The duo had demanded the bribe from a rice mill owner in neighbouring Raigad district to release two trucks loaded with rice which they had seized on February 25, Sakore said.
The mill owner lodged a complaint with the ACB, which laid a trap and caught Kanoja accepting the bribe money, he added.
