Mumbai: Nooriya Haveliwala was released on bail on Sunday after the police failed to file the chargesheet in the drunk driving case within the stipulated 60-day period.
The police are still helpless, as they are yet to get information on the drugs consumed by Nooriya. On February 10, a forensic science laboratory test had revealed the presence of morphine as well as cannabis in Haveliwala's blood and urine samples, and a case was filed against her. But the police are still finding it tough to get evidence, as they still don't know where she got the drugs.
A police source said, "The forensic tests proved that she had consumed drugs, but it has been difficult to find where she got them."
He added, "Nooriya was not cooperative in the investigation. Even her friends didn't say anything about it, which has delayed the case."
Once the police had submitted the charge sheet without the details regarding the drugs, it would create problems during the trial and case proceedings. The police is still not sure when they will be able to file chargesheet. The cops can't question Nooriya, as she is no longer in police custody.
On January 30 this year Nooriya was arrested for allegedly killing two people, including a police constable while driving her car, allegedly under the influence of alcohol. (Read: January 30 - Drunk woman driver kills two in Mumbai)
Haweliwala was drunk when she drove her SUV into a police checkpost at Marine Lines on January 30. A policeman and a motorcyclist were killed. She has been charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
Nooriya was on her way home to Colaba from a friend's house in Breach Candy when she lost control of her car. The police later revealed that she had tested positive for drugs. (Read: February 10 - Mumbai's drunk driver was also on drugs)
