Nagpur:
A couple has allegedly duped some city-based investors, including retired citizens, to the tune of about Rs 54.94 lakhs by promising a handsome interest rate on their investments.
The accused -- Jayant Jhamre and his wife Varsha -- opened a private finance company named JS Capital and Financial Services in Pratap Nagar area and used to take deposits promising good returns, police said on Wednesday.
A large number of people residing in the area invested in the scheme, they said, adding that the couple issued post-dated cheques which subsequently bounced.
Aggrieved investors lodged a complaint with Rana Pratap Nagar police station on Tuesday after the accused locked their office and fled from the area.
No arrests have been made in the case so far, they said, adding that offences under relevant sections of IPC for fraud have been registered against them.
