Couple trying to sell baby held in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: A woman and her husband were apprehended from Secunderabad for allegedly trying to sell a week-old baby girl, police said on Thursday.

Sleuths of Commissioner's Task Force apprehended Sahanaz Begum and her husband Md Jahangir on Wednesday, who lured a woman Minaz Bee of Parbhani district of Maharashtra to sell her child for Rs one lakh to a childless couple, they said.

Minaz Bee, who has four children, delivered a girl child on November 8 at her parent's house in Parbhani.

As per the oral contract between Minaz Bee and the accused couple, Minaz along with her husband Syed Habeeb came to Hyderabad to hand over their new-borne baby to the accused, police said.

However, a police team on receipt of a tip-off apprehended Sahanaz Begum and Md Jahangir who had planned to sell the baby girl to a childless couple. The duo was later handed over to Market Police Station.

The couple from Parabhani who offered to sell their child have not been arrested and would be counselled, police sources said.
