Court comes to the rescue of ailing infant

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Thursday came to the rescue of an infant, who could not be treated at a Haryana hospital as her family did not have ration card, by directing the Delhi government to bring her to the national Capital for free treatment.

Justice S Muralidhar passed the order on a petition filed by her aunt who had approached the High Court apprehending a government hospital in Haryana would not provide free treatment as the family had no ration card.

She pleaded that being a poor family it was not possible for her to get the child treated in a private hospital and the court's intervention is needed for the welfare of the child who lost her mother at birth.

The Court, after hearing her contention, directed the authorities to provide an ambulance to bring the child to Delhi for her treatment.

"Given the peculiar circumstances and the urgency of the matter, it is directed that the respondent (Delhi government) will forthwith arrange for transportation of the new-born baby girl in an emergency ambulance," the court said.

"A doctor, specializing in neonatology should preferably accompany the ambulance," the court said.
